The Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda Pilot are both midsize SUVs with seating for up to five. Even with those basic similarities, however, the Tiguan hits the road with some immediate advantages. While both vehicles offer solid cargo space with their seats folded down, the new Tiguan offers 33.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats. The Honda Pilot only offers 18.6 cubic feet in the same area.
The Volkswagen Tiguan comes equipped with a standard 201-horsepower turbocharged powertrain and offers an optional 268-horsepower engine, with the right trim. The Honda Pilot, by comparison, comes with a standard 285-horsepower V6.
While the Honda Pilot is more powerful, however, the Tiguan is more efficient. The Pilot is rated for up to 19/27 miles per gallon on city streets and highways. The Tiguan, meanwhile, can deliver up to 26/34 miles per gallon - a significant advantage.
Both the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda Pilot are comfortable to drive on the road, with solid and responsive handling. The Honda Pilot, however, does have a longer stopping time at high speeds, but you'll enjoy still enjoy a good ride in both SUVs.
