Volkswagen Emergency Assist is a system that monitors your driving to help prevent accidents. By paying attention to steering-wheel input, gas and brake pedals, and other driver feedback, the system can detect if you’ve stopped reacting while at the wheel. If a situation like this is detected, the system will automatically begin to slow your car, ultimately bringing it to a full stop if you fail to respond. The system will try to get your attention by performing braking jolts, and it warns other drivers using signals on the outside of your vehicle, like your hazard flashers. The system also has the ability to monitor traffic in front of you, as well as provide subtle guidance to keep your car in its lane as it brings the vehicle to a halt.
In a perfect world, we would all be excellent drivers, free from distraction or error, but unfortunately our world isn’t perfect, and mistakes do happen.
